In Brazil, attempts to remove from the power of the President of the country Dilma Rusef continues. Soon after the Prosecutor General asked to begin an official investigation against the head of state, the speaker of the special commission of the Brazilian Senate (Upper House of Parliament) on the impeachment of Antoniu Anastasia recommended to remove Rusef from office, the Reuters agency reported.
According to journalists, the corresponding verdict was published on Wednesday at an extraordinary meeting of the commission. It is expected that the report will be submitted to the vote on Friday, May 6. After that, regardless of the outcome of the consideration of the document, the issue of removing RUSEF will be discussed at the plenary meeting of the Senate. There, it requires a simple majority of votes to support it.
If more than 50% of the senators approve the continuation of the impeachment procedure, the head of state will have to leave the post for 180 days, during which the deputies will consider its case. During this period, the country, according to the Constitution, will be headed by Vice President Michel Temer.
If the senators do not agree with the arguments of the initiators of the removal of the president, Rusef will return to the performance of his duties. Otherwise, Temer will remain as head of state before the 2018 elections.
Recall that in March of this year in Brazil, multimillion -dollar demonstrations were held with a demand for the resignation of the current president. Protesters also called for impeachment and the fight against corruption.
A few days later, the federal judge blocked the entry of the ex-president of Lula da Silva, detained in the case of corruption, as head of the administration of the current president of Dilma Rusef. Investigators suspect that the three-level apartment of the ex-president, located in the resort city of Guaruzha, could be involved in fraudulent schemes for laundering of criminal money.
As for Rusef, in mid -April, the Parliamentary commission of Brazil voted for itsimpeachment , the lower house of the parliament supported the impeachment. As an argument, in favor of Rusef’s resignation, a decision was given by the Federal Accounts Chamber of Brazil, which recommended that the country's parliament recognize the financial report of the government for 2014 insolvent.
Earlier, on May 4, the prosecutor general of Brazil asked the country's Supreme Court to begin an investigation against Dilma President Rusef as part of an anti -corruption case associated with the Petrobras oil company.
In March 2014, the investigation was launched against Petrobras, during it it turned out that in the 2000s a number of top managers of the energy giant signed agreements on behalf of the company, for which they received commission in the amount of 3% of the contract amount. In the future, this money was used to bribe politicians and officials.
Law enforcement officers suspect that a number of companies and contractors organized an illegal cartel that performed work for Petrobras and issued the companies excessive bills of dollars. The money received in this way went into the pockets of entrepreneurs and politicians, including from the party of the working people of Lula and Silva.
