Manufacturers of Marlboro and Dunhill lost the court of "depersonalized" packs of cigarettes

The European Court in Luxembourg confirmed the obligation of tobacco companies to sell cigarettes in standardized packaging with warning for the dangers of smoking with images. It is reported by Reuters .

PHILIP Morris International and British American Tobacco (BAT) tried to challenge this norm. The lawsuit was also supported by Japan Tobacco and Imperial Brands.

The court in Luxembourg also called the ban on the sale of menthol and other flavored cigarettes and tightening the rules for advertising electronic cigarettes.

As Bloomberg recalls , Bat and Philip Morris previously appealed to the UK court with a lawsuit regarding standard cigarette packaging. In May 2016, a law enters into force in Britain, which obliges tobacco manufacturers to sell them in “impersonal” packaging without the use of logos.

According to tobacco companies, such norms violate their intellectual property rights.
