Mutko called CBS program about doping in Russian sports an “information attack”
The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko said that the program of the American CBS television channel about doping in Russian sports is an information attack.
On May 8, CBS plans to air an episode of the 60 Minutes program dedicated to doping in Russia.
Among other things, the program, as follows from the announcement, will show an interview with a former employee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Vitaly Stepanov. In an interview, Stepanov said that at least four athletes who won gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi used doping.
Lawyers will consider suing Stepanov when they watch the program, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said.
- Previously, Vitaly Stepanov and his wife, runner Yulia Stepanova, participated in the filming of two documentaries about doping in Russian sports, released in the fall of 2014 on the German TV channel ARD.
- The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conducted its own investigation, as a result of which the Russian Ministry of Sports and the FSB were accused of interfering in the work of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, including during the Sochi Games.
- After the publication of the results of the WADA investigation, Russian athletes were suspended from all competitions under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and the license of the Moscow Anti-Doping Center was canceled.
