Warsaw. Memorial to Soviet soldiers
In Russia, official propaganda has recently often used the topic of burials of Soviet soldiers in Poland, accusing Warsaw almost of vandalism at the state level. At the same time, it is almost never explained that the contract for the protection of burials and places of memory signed in 1994 concerns exclusively military cemeteries between Russia and Poland.
And there are 1875 cemeteries in Poland, where Soviet soldiers are buried, and all of them are under state protection and are contained and repaired at the expense of the budget.
On May 8, on the end of World War II in Europe, about noon, I went to the military memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw, where 21,468 soldiers were buried, mainly the first Belarusian front, whose remains were transferred here after the war from temporary and local burial places.
In the cemetery open on the fifth anniversary of the Victory, today there were several dozen people of different ages. Some came to lay flowers to the graves of fallen relatives, others just honor the memory of the dead, and one of the women came with a bouquet of a carnation and laid one for each grave, until the flowers ended.
The main stele of the memorial was peacefully adjacent to two wreaths - Ukrainian and Russian. And no signs of vandalism or desolation. Show more To curtail
