The acting deputy chairman of the Odessa regional state administration Maria Gaidar resigned from this position, Ukrainian Pravda reports . However, she will remain in the team of Mikhail Saakashvili as an adviser.
As Gaidar explained, her resignation is associated with the Law of Ukraine on the civil service that entered into force on May 1. He obliges officials to have only Ukrainian citizenship. Gaidar, in addition to Ukrainian, has a Russian one. In addition, the document prohibits combining the civil service with an elected position. In the fall, Gaidar was elected as a deputy of the Odessa Regional Rada.
On July 17 last year, Saakashvili announced that Gaidar would become Deputy Odessa Governor for Social Affairs. However, a few days later the governor said that an open competition will be announced to this position. Gaidar was appointed adviser to the governor.
On August 4, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the provision of citizenship and presented the passport of Gaidar and the Russian journalist, the former chief editor of Forbes-Ukraine, Vladimir Fedorin. Many Russians who understand the real state of things make their choice, Poroshenko emphasized. He thanked those who find the courage to express disagreement with the actions of the regime ruling in Russia, for their active bold civil position.
Poroshenko wished the new citizens of Ukraine not to lose communications with Russia. According to him, the maximum that they can do today for Russia is "this is to ensure the success of Ukraine." Only under these conditions it will be possible to restore relations between free Ukraine and free Russia.
Gaidar said that for her the adoption of Ukrainian citizenship was a very significant choice: "I am here in a difficult time for Ukraine in order to share the fate of the Ukrainian people. We have a common enemy - an authoritarian regime that kills people both in Russia and here." She also assured that she would do everything possible, "in order to defeat this enemy and show another way - the path of freedom and democracy, respect, partnership and good neighborliness."
On August 7, Gaidar wrote a statement about the abandonment of Russian citizenship . However, this process was not completed.
On January 16, Saakashvili appointed Gaidar acting Deputy Chairman of the Regional State Administration ..
