Architect Akhmetov, accused of disrupting a police chase at a rally in support of Navalny, had his arrest extended

The Tverskoy Court of Moscow extended the detention of architect Sergei Akhmetov, who is accused under Article 318 of the Criminal Code (Violence against government officials), until May 23, 2016.

The defense insisted that the accused does not look like the person who tore off the policeman's shoulder straps at the rally in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place in the center of Moscow on July 18, 2013, near the State Duma building. Akhmetov himself also insists that he was not in Moscow that day.

Sergei Akhmetov was detained at the end of November when entering Russia from Finland, after which he was taken to Moscow. On November 23, 2015, the architect was arrested .

Last week it became known that a pre-investigation check was being carried out against Open Russia lawyer Gadzhi Aliyev, who represents Akhmetov’s interests, regarding the disclosure of preliminary investigation data.
