Deputies decided not to prohibit their relatives from doing business

The State Duma rejected in the first reading a bill prohibiting close relatives of high-ranking senators and deputies from doing business.

According to Rustam Ishmukhametov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, the implementation of the law would lead to a restriction of the rights of deputies and senators, reports . the Moskva agency

“The implementation of the norms proposed by the bill, in addition to a differentiated approach to the parliamentarians themselves, will entail restrictions on the rights of an individual to freely use their ability and property for entrepreneurial and other activities not prohibited by law,” Rustam Ishmukhametov explained.

• A bill banning entrepreneurial activities for relatives of high-ranking parliamentarians was introduced by State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Vadim Solovyov. The ban applied to relatives of the chairmen of both chambers of parliament and their deputies, as well as heads of committees of the State Duma and the Federation Council.
• The document also proposed to consider as a conflict of interest "a personal interest that affects the objective and impartial performance of official duties." Personal interest meant the possibility of receiving income in the form of money, property or services by parliamentarians and their close relatives.
