The trial of Ukrainians Karpyuk and Klykh has been postponed

The trial in the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic over citizens of Ukraine Nikolay Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh was postponed to May 17 due to the illness of one of the prosecutors. This was reported on Twitter by lawyer Anton Naumlyuk.

Judge Vakhit Ismailov said about the "anonymous threats" that come to the representatives of the jury. According to the judge, he demanded state protection for the jury. It is reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the lawyer, Anton Naumlyuk. As the lawyer explained, “these could not have been threats from the defense: we don’t have jurors’ phones, we don’t have access to them. So these were threats in favor of the prosecution.”

Ukrainians are accused of participating in hostilities and killing Russian servicemen in Chechnya in the mid-1990s.

According to investigators, Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh were members of the extremist organization "Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian People's Self-Defense" (UNA-UNSO) and in late 1994 - early 1995 fought with Russian troops in Grozny as part of the armed formations of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
