The Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Alexei Ulyukaev said that the government refused to impose excise taxes on harmful products, including soda and palm oil.
“Based on the results of a longer reflection and discussion, it was decided not to implement such proposals now,” Interfax quotes the minister.
The ministry believes that manufacturers of confectionery and flour products of mass consumption of low and medium cost will be forced to raise prices for these products with the introduction of an excise tax, "which can lead to negative socio-economic consequences."
