Google is preparing a competitor to the "smart" column Amazon Echo

Google is preparing to release a device that resembles an "smart" Amazon Echo column used as a home voice assistant, reports Recode with reference to its own sources.

According to the description, the Google column, which received the code name Chirp, will look like an onhub router and will receive support for the Google Now voice assistant. It is assumed that the device can be announced before the end of the year. It is possible that the Chirp presentation will be held as part of the Google I/O conference, which will be held from May 18 to 20.

Google official representatives refused to comment on rumors about the development of their own smart box.

Recall that the "smart" column of Amazon Echo was represented in November 2014. It is a black cylinder with speakers built into it, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, as well as a microphone for recognition of the voice. The device is in constant activity mode and, at the request of the owner, report the latest news, weather forecast and issue various information from the network. In addition, the device is compatible with a wide set of other "smart" gadgets, including Nest thermostats or Philips Hue lamps.

According to Recode, to date, Amazon Echo sales exceeded three million pieces, and Google intends to compete with Amazon using its developments.
