A case was opened against the deputy chairman of the Mejlis, Ilmi Umerov, for calls for separatism.

The Crimean prosecutor's office announced the initiation of a criminal case against the deputy head of the Mejlis, Ilmi Umerov. The press service of the department reports this. Apparently, this case is not related to the searches and arrests that took place on the morning of May 12 in Bakhchisarai in the case of participation in the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement, as OVD-Info previously wrote .

“It was established that in March 2016, Umerov, while on the territory of Ukraine, spoke live on the Ukrainian TV channel ATR, where he publicly made calls for the need to violate the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation. Based on this fact, the Directorate of the FSB of Russia opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 280.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, committed using the media or electronic or information and telecommunication networks (including the Internet)," the supervisory authority said in a statement.

Earlier, the first deputy head of the Mejlis, Nariman Dzhelyalov, wrote on his Facebook page about the detention of the deputy chairman of the Mejlis, Ilmi Umerov, in Bakhchisarai. According to the publication Crimea in 15 Minutes, FSB officers came to Umerov with a summons, where he was named as a suspect in a criminal case. Umerov was taken to the FSB headquarters in Simferopol.

Currently, according to Facebook, lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, who is with Umerov, is going to search his home.

On April 26, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was recognized as an extremist organization and banned.

upd: According to information from the first deputy head of the Mejlis, Nariman Dzhelyalov, an FSB investigator took Umerov under a written undertaking not to leave.
