In general, it does not surprise me that writers like Dugin and Prokhanov have an influence on Russian youth, even on the one outside Russia. Especially when you take into account the fact that they strongly affect adult uncles and aunts in Russia itself, including at the very top. Why they succeed is a separate question.

The "historians", which our student refers, is quite skillfully treated by history. Their fundamental approach: the end justifies the means. This whole corporation - Dugin, Prokhanov, Minister of Culture of Medinsky, parliamentarian Alexei Pushkov, TV presenter Dmitry Kiselev and others like them - proceeds from the fact that the use of history in “state goals” is a more valuable thing than history in itself than objective historical truth or a concrete subject of history.

And the point is not so much that such an interpretation of history is useful for the Russian government. She meets a response in a rather large number of ordinary citizens: someone allows you to touch the “greatness”, someone-to “raise” themselves over the routine of life, over everyday problems. For many, she looks tempting, as a certain excuse, compensation for what does not work out in life, including in personal. Attention in the “great” - for them it is tantamount to reaching another, higher level.
