The Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv rejected the investigation's request to extend the detention of Russian woman Anastasia Leonova, who was previously arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack, Leonova's lawyer Maxim Kozub said.

“Investigating judge Bugil refused to satisfy the investigator’s request to extend Nastya’s period of detention. The motivation is that the suspicions are unfounded,” Kozub wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, according to the court's ruling, Leonova was given a period of detention until May 17. The lawyer also quoted a statement from Leonova herself on his Facebook.

“I don’t know what I should be happy about right now. When a person who has spent a total of 150 days in prison is finally returned to the freedom that originally rightfully belonged to him and was illegally and unreasonably taken away, what is there to rejoice about? I can rejoice when I see behind bars those who deprived me of this freedom,” Kozub quotes Leonova as saying.

Leonova was detained in Kiev in December 2015. She is suspected of preparing terrorist attacks in the country. As Gubsky told the Hromadske TV channel, the Russian woman is accused of preparing terrorist attacks in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine as part of a group led by a certain Oleg Muzhchil. The latter was shot dead in a Kyiv apartment on the night of December 10 during an assault by soldiers of the SBU unit.

Leonova denied all accusations. According to her, she knew Muzhchil, but did not prepare any terrorist attacks.

On March 5, the Russian woman was released from the pre-trial detention center. After this, the SBU sent a petition to the court for her new arrest. On March 16, Leonova was arrested again .
