The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has sent to Interpol headquarters in Lyon some of the documents needed to resolve the issue of an international search for Mikhail Khodorkovsky. This was reported to TASS by Alexander Kurennoy, a representative of the supervisory agency. According to him, consultations on the situation with Khodorkovsky, who is suspected of organizing the murder of Nefteyugansk Mayor Vladimir Petukhov in 1998, are continuing. "An additional package of documents will be sent to Lyon," Kurennoy emphasized. After their consideration, a new round of consultations is planned.

Before this, an informed source told Interfax that a new package of documents on Khodorkovsky had been sent to Lyon. He referred to an agreement that had been reached with the Interpol General Secretariat and suggested that the documents sent "would be sufficient for a new consideration of the issue of an international search warrant for the former head of Yukos."

Russia sent a request to Interpol to place Khodorkovsky on the international wanted list in connection with the Petukhov murder case on February 3, 2016, and was refused. The Interpol General Secretariat recommended not to include Khodorkovsky's profile in national databases, citing a provision of the charter that prohibits any actions of a political, military, religious or racial nature, Interfax recalls.

It then became known that negotiations were underway with Interpol on a new request to search for Khodorkovsky. The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed that such negotiations were underway and that representatives of Interpol headquarters "expressed their readiness to return to the consideration of this request if Moscow prepares a package of additional materials on the said case."
