The Supreme Court upheld the sentence of an air traffic controller accused of treason

On May 18, the Supreme Court of Russia refused to satisfy the appeal of an air traffic controller from Sochi, who was sentenced to 12 years in a strict regime colony on charges of high treason (under Article 275 of the Criminal Code). It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The verdict against Petr Parpulov is left unchanged, the appeal is dismissed,” the Judicial Collegium of the Supreme Court announced the decision.

According to the FSB, Parpulov harmed state interests by handing over information containing state secrets to a Georgian resident in 2010, who later retold them to the Georgian authorities. Parpulov, in turn, emphasized that he retold an article from the newspaper of the Ministry of Defense Krasnaya Zvezda to his relative. Parpulov never had access to state secrets. The human rights center "Memorial" recognized Parpulov as a political prisoner.
