A 32-year-old US citizen, who was wanted for committing “a number of hacker actions,” was detained in Moscow, said Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk.
“During the course of a complex of operational-search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department, together with the Interpol NCB department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow, detained a man wanted by the intelligence services of the United States of America. He is accused of committing crimes in the field of high technology,” says Volk.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainee and his accomplices “committed a number of hacker actions in their homeland, which subsequently led to multimillion-dollar manipulation of dollar shares.” He is accused of stealing the personal information of millions of clients of large American companies and of securities fraud. The Russian side reported the arrest of the man to US law enforcement agencies who had put him on the wanted list.
