EgyptAir Vice President confirms discovery of A320 wreckage

EgyptAir Vice President Ahmed Adel confirmed the discovery of the wreckage of an A320 aircraft that disappeared from radar on the morning of May 19. The wreckage was found about 150 nautical miles (about 280 kilometers) off the coast of Egypt, reports CNN.

The airline itself, citing the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation , said that the wreckage was found near the Greek island of Karpathos. The department said that the Greek authorities found objects similar to the wreckage of the aircraft and life jackets, reports Reuters.

Earlier it was reported that plastic fragments were found near the Greek island of Karpathos - according to various sources, orange or white-red. Reuters, citing the Egyptian ambassador to France, reports the discovery of fragments of white and blue (the colors of the airline), but the Greek authorities deny this .

Earlier, the airline said that information about the wreckage found was not confirmed.

• The EgyptAir A320 flying from Paris to Cairo disappeared from radar screens in the early morning of May 19 over the Mediterranean Sea. There were 66 people on board the aircraft, including 10 crew members, citizens of 12 countries.
• Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said a terrorist attack was considered more likely than a technical malfunction to cause the A320 to crash. Egypt Air Vice President Ahmed Adel said it is too early to talk about the possible causes of the crash at this stage.
