“According to preliminary data, there is white smoke on the ground floor of the main building of Moscow State University. Employees who have gone to the scene will begin searching for a possible source of fire,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

The press service of the capital's head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed to Interfax that a message had been received about a fire in the main building of Moscow State University at the address: Vorobyovy Gory, building 1. “Units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations went to the scene of the incident, information about what is happening is being clarified,” said a press service employee.

Citing a source in the city’s emergency services, Interfax reports that firefighters are already looking for the source of the fire in the main building of Moscow State University, where the smoke is coming from.

Eyewitnesses told RBC that no evacuation was taking place. One of them, a university employee, said that the fire did not occur in the educational or residential parts of the building, but in one of the basement technical rooms located to the left of the entrance to the main building of the university.

According to RBC's interlocutor, the fire is not severe, there is no significant smoke, and there are now several fire engines and about two dozen firefighters near the main building. “Firefighters break out the outer grates and fill everything there with water,” the source told RBC.
