Ministry of Transport: Ukraine must compensate for the renaming of Dnepropetrovsk

Ukraine may have to pay for changes to international codes after renaming the city of Dnepropetrovsk to the Dnieper. According to RBC, this was stated by the head of the Russian Ministry of Transport Maxim Sokolov.

"This is an expensive event - to change the name - and for this, in my opinion, the initiator of the appeal is responsible. I do not know if they changed international codes," Sokolov said.

The minister clarified that Russia is ready to make changes to its cartographic sources and databases, "if all expenses through international codes are settled."

In turn, the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Alexander Neudko, explained that the changes to the airport’s aviation international code have not yet been made. "We have not yet received information. They can change the name of the city, but do not change the name of the airport and abbreviations. Maybe they will change their minds and go to reduce expenses," Neudko said.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine made the decision to rename Dnepropetrovsk on May 19. The decision was made within the framework of the law on decommunization in force in Ukraine. At the same meeting, the deputies decided to rename the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk to Kamenskoye.
