Dreams of Martha

On May 16, New Gazeta published an investigation into Galina Mursalieva “Death Group” about teenage suicides. The article caused an unprecedented public outcry: is there a mysterious sect on the network, the purpose of which is to bring schoolchildren to suicide? Or is the publication part of the next plan of the authorities to introduce new restrictions on the Internet? Or maybe these are just teenagers and their games on social networks, which adults do not understand? What is happening in the life of a person who has just survived the death of a teenager, how society and law enforcement agencies react to the tragedy - The New Times correspondent shares his own experience with readers

Martha dreamed of living in St. Petersburg. Dye your hair in lilac, travel a lot, wear sneakers, listen to music. She loved to squeeze the cats, wear men's sweaters, make her friends surprises and rub my T -shirts. Most of all she liked to help people: even signed up for a volunteer organization where teenagers organized different city holidays, including for children with disabilities, and helped lonely old men. She was worried about upcoming exams at school, because of far-fetched completeness, due to the fact that she did not know who to go to study at the university for: what education should be obtained in order to work in a charity fund, for example?

My younger sister Marta was 14 years old. She was gone on September 22, 2014.

Three words

“I love you” - the last message in our correspondence about cats, boring studies and weather in Crimea. A few hours later I will hear three more words. “There is no more Martha,” mother will say in a lifeless voice and hang the phone.

On September 22, March left the house at about four in the afternoon - behind special notebooks for the school. After a couple of hours, she will come to the company of recently appeared friends. As adolescents will later tell the investigator, someone called her at about seven o'clock in the evening, and she left. One of the girlfriends will insist that they went out together and quickly parted in different directions - home. True, Martha went towards the opposite from the house.

At nine o'clock mom will call. She will answer that she is about to go home. At ten o’clock he will publish a post on the VKontakte social network, dedicated to his boyfriend and quote from the song: “You are the best, and we will survive the cottage, mom, tickets ...” After that, he will stop responding to calls. Friends and relatives will begin to search. At about 10.30.30, one of the teenagers will run to the roof of the house on Nansen Street, where they were periodically visited-he will tumble about someone’s jacket, wake the homeless, but will not meet anyone else.

At about 11 o’clock in the evening near this twelve -storey building on the outskirts of Norilsk a passer -by, returning from a day shift at the factory, will find the body of Martha at the entrance, behind a huge stone porch. Her things - a jacket, bag and phone - police will find on the roof.

It is impossible to come to terms with the death of a child. Constantly in your head you drive out the events of recent months, try to understand again and again, explain to yourself what happened. You are an adult, which means that responsible, and what happened is your fault. Maybe I did not see, did not speak, misunderstood? Maybe it was worthwhile to control more thoroughly what the teenager lives - to read the correspondence, inspect your pockets, indicate with whom to be friends and what to do?

But Martha did not hide anything. Her openness surprised me: I never told my mother about friends a more necessary minimum and did not discuss boys with her, showing signs of attention. We constantly talked on social networks - exchanged photos, music, funny videos. We discussed films, books - including the Steice Kramer, popular in the teenage environment “50 days before my suicide”.

“The main character behaved like a fool and a tantrum,” Martha said, “she has problems that could be solved. And there was no need to arrange such a circus. And even more so to decide to commit suicide. ”

You are an adult, which means that responsible and what happened is your fault. Maybe I did not see, did not speak, misunderstood?

After the death of Martha, everyone around them begins to engage in mystification: she read this book, she recently discussed death with her friend, she wrote some numbers in the notebook! Mom constantly burns church candles and prays. We practically do not eat, do not sleep and talk a lot, analyzing every day a minute. It seems that if someone told us at that moment that Marta was in the Internet sector, where teenagers are brought to suicide, we would believe without hesitation. The evidence is evident: the girl used social networks, followed public pages like the 4:20 Novaya Gazeta, famous after the investigation of Novaya Gazeta, and often did not sleep at night, reading books.

My means of experiencing grief was my own investigation: I talk with friends, teachers, search the whole room, study all the notebooks - from the album with the texts of songs of my favorite groups to the school diary. But there is nothing, not a single hint - only happy photos from our joint vacation at sea. Everything that could be put on the course of events is in the hands of the Investigative Committee.

"Name any name"

The Investigative Committee, like the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the morning of September 23 hastily issued a press release: “In Norilsk, investigators are checking on the suicide of a minor girl.” Local, regional and federal media successfully picked up: “The investigation authorities established that the deceased lived in a prosperous family, did not conflict with her parents. In conversations with peers, she constantly touched on the theme of death and repeatedly said that she wanted to commit suicide, but acquaintances did not take her words seriously. ” Hysteria begins on social networks: all because of unhappy love, ha ha, does not know how to fly ...

Investigators take her laptop, phone, notebooks. Friends, their parents, request a characteristic at school hastily. They introduce a report to the case for a lesson on the basics of life safety - about teenage vagrancy. Apparently, trying to prove a predisposition to asocial behavior. And they tell us: “What is any name. Whoever you call, we will put it for bringing to suicide. ”

"Have you interviewed everyone who was in the company that evening?" - I annoy the investigator again at the next meeting.

“Now one should come alone, but is late,” he looks at his watch and dials someone on the phone. - Hello, where are you? Do you go shopping with mom? Well, then come later. ”

A month later, according to the procedural terms, the investigators finished the audit, they did not initiate a criminal case. As far as I know, all probable witnesses were never interviewed. The investigator did not even request the history of calls from a mobile phone. And why? Suicide is much more convenient for reporting than an unsolved murder.

The battle of non -excesses

At the end of November 2014, Irina Miroshnikova, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, arrives in Norilsk. At the reception of citizens, in addition to the Commissioner, there is a deputy of the local city assembly Natalya Plotnikova.

“Why did you come here, why do you need it? - asks Plotnikova, after I finished my story about the thin investigation. - To calm down at last? Yes, suicide is not easy to accept. You know, on TNT there is a transmission of such a “battle of psychics”. Maybe you go to a fortuneteller? "

After a conversation with the Commissioner, the Investigation Department for the Krasnoyarsk Territory returns the case to Norilsk, again for a preliminary investigation. The “best investigator of the department” is appointed - photos of George Sharabidze are flaunted in the lobby of the UK. Assign a posthumous psychological examination. And they interrogate me, my own sister, for the first time in six months.

“You understand that only two articles are possible in this case - bringing to suicide or leaving in danger (Article 110 and Article 125 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. - NT ),” the investigator explains to me, “and it is almost impossible to prove the second.”

“Why don't you consider other options? What have you found out at the moment? “I insist,” I, for example, found the SSMES on the old phone. In them, she asked for money from friends - and this is atypical behavior, since Marta always had funds for pocket expenses, and did not like to take money from others, she did not even allow boys to pay for themselves in the cinema. "

“These are your speculations,” says Sharabidze, “you can familiarize yourself with the case file when the check is over.”

But I will not be allowed to familiarize myself with the documents. On March 17, 2015, the Norilsk Investigative Committee for the second time refused to initiate a criminal case. And then he began to maneuver: they say, the Krasnoyarsk administration is so carefully monitored by the work of its employees that he constantly requests documents to the regional center, and the “material” is forever “not back to date”.

And the Commissioner for the Rights of the Child in the Krasnoyarsk Territory simply stopped responding to requests.

"What are you living for?"

Indeed, it may seem to the deputy, both the investigator and the authorized person: the crazy sister is not able to put up with the adolescent suicide. Denial is also the stage of experience of grief. The action is also a model of behavior. At least it looks from the outside.

But the point is not in the affect or manner of behavior, but in the facts that the investigation was to consider. Or at least try to find them.

For example, bodily harm: medical examination recorded a fracture of arms and legs, a bruise under the eye. The cause of death is a bruise. “Just write that death came from a bruise is even ridiculous,” comments Olga Smorodinova, a resuscitator with thirty years of experience, “this is not a cause of death. Death comes from injuries incompatible with life: multiple fractures, ruptures of internal organs, heavy traumatic brain injury or blood loss. The true reasons are written in the forensic medical examination-that is, the paper that you are not given out. ”

Later I examined the house in which everything happened - a panel twelve -story building, standing on stilts. An extension and a wide porch: to fall for it, it was necessary to scatter decently.

Or analysis of social networks. "What are you living for?" -asks an anonymous user on a popular site, where communication occurs through a “question-answer”. “In order to make people around me happy. In order to make mom happy. For a dream, ”Martha answered.

Martha is not 609 days. Only my dream remained - to find the guilty.
