Rosiso will be combined with GTSIS

Today, May 25, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky announced that the State Museum and Exhibition Center Rosiso will be combined with the State Center for Contemporary Art (GCSI).

According to Medinsky, in Russia there are several large centers of classical art and only a few centers devoted to modern art, TASS reports.

The Minister of Culture noted that Rosiso and the GCC have similar tasks - they represent contemporary art in Russia and abroad, collaborate with museums and critics, so it was logical to create a single center for support for contemporary art.

Medinsky said that the head of Rosiso Sergey Perov will be to lead the new structure, which is created on the basis of Rosiso, and the GTCS will become its unit. General Director of the GCS Mikhail Mindlin will leave his post.

“We thank him for his contribution to the development of the Center for Contemporary Art, he made several interesting offers, I think we will soon see Mindlin in a new interesting quality,” Medinsky said. He added that it is not supposed to be reductions in the HCSI, since the Ministry of Culture "sets new tasks for the HCSI, all employees will be employed."

The organization was founded in 1959 under the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR as a Directorate of Artistic Funds and the design of monuments, in 1977-1994 - "Rosizopropaganda". Since 2010, the ROSIZO GMVC has has the status of a museum, the founder of the center is the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

GCSI was established by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in 1992. This is a museum-exhibition and research organization, the activities of which are aimed at developing modern domestic art in the context of the world artistic process, the formation and implementation of programs and projects in the field of contemporary art, architecture and design in Russia and abroad.

The center is located in Moscow and has branches in Vladikavkaz, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, St. Petersburg and Tomsk. Together with the Ministry of Culture of the GCC, is the founder of the annual competition in the field of modern visual art “Innovation” and the Moscow International Biennale of Young Art.
