Car sales in St. Petersburg are showing growth for the second month in a row. According to the Auto-Dealer-SPb agency, in April 2016, 10.3 thousand cars were sold in the city, which is 35 units or (0.3%) more than in April 2015.

At the end of April, KIA left the top three sales leaders - the Korean brand was supplanted by Renault. Hyundai remains the market leader; domestic Lada, due to the new Vesta and Xray models, still continues to occupy second place, the report says.

“The market is showing positive results due to the growth in sales volumes of the 10 leading brands in the spring,” notes General Director of Auto-Dealer-SPb Mikhail Chaplygin. — The overall negative result is primarily affected by the withdrawal of individual brands from the market or the reduction of the model range of some brands. The brakes on the market now are Opel and Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, which lost its ASX model, Nissan and Datsun, which failed at the beginning of the year.”

In total, based on the results of January-April 2016, more than 36.9 thousand cars were sold in St. Petersburg, which is 5% less than the figure for the same period last year. In the top 10 based on the results of four months, 5 brands at once, against three brands in the first quarter of this year, showed an increase in sales. The best dynamics in January-April were shown by the Chinese Changan (200%), which entered the St. Petersburg market only last year, Suzuki (164%) due to the new Vitara model, and Ford (82%), which took a number of steps to strengthen its position in the market .

The share of St. Petersburg in the total sales of new cars in Russia in January-April amounted to 8.4% (for the same period in 2015 - 7.5%).
