First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov will become the curator of the MSU Scientific and Technological Valley project. RBC reports this with reference to its sources.
According to the publication, in April, President Vladimir Putin agreed, at the request of Moscow State University rector Viktor Sadovnichy, to include Shuvalov on the university’s board of trustees for the development of “complex projects,” including a boarding school under construction for gifted children, which should become part of the Technology Valley.
Sadovnichy told RBC that he does not know what direction the council will entrust to Shuvalov, but the Deputy Prime Minister, in his words, “will definitely be interested in the work of the boarding school.”
RBC reports that Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich is currently overseeing the Technology Valley project in the government. On his instructions, the Ministry of Economic Development developed a bill providing for the seizure of 100 hectares of land from Moscow State University in favor of a state management company that will be responsible for the Valley project.
According to RBC sources, Viktor Sadovnichy has a better relationship with Shuvalov than with Dvorkovich. The publication’s interlocutors believe that he “will not insist” on the seizure of land from the university.
“Igor Ivanovich is our graduate [the first deputy prime minister graduated from the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University], he often visits the university and knows it well,” explains Sadovnichy. For Shuvalov, Moscow State University “is of very great importance,” confirms a source close to the Kremlin administration: he always expressed a desire to participate in the development of the university, and this desire was eventually satisfied. A representative from Shuvalov's secretariat declined to comment.
