Rostec: Moscow will not supply Tiegran offensive weapons

Russia will not supply Iran tanks and fighters because of the current restrictions. This was in an interview with Kommersant by the head of the Rostec state corporation Sergey Chemezov.

“While there are sanctions of the UN Security Council, we will supply that it does not fall under the restrictions, for example, the air defense system. We have never violated international agreements. We will not violate now,” he said.

The contract for the supply of Tehran S-300 complexes can be executed before the end of the year, added Chemezov. Some components, according to him, have already been set by the customer.

The head of Rostec explained that the four S-300PMU-2 divisions were previously intended for Syria, but due to the civil war that had begun there, the contract was terminated. According to Chemezov, Tehran shows interest in other weapons systems in addition to the S-300 CRS.

“They show, but talk about concluding contracts for offensive weapons - like T -90 tanks or Su -30SM fighters - there is no need,” said the head of Rostec.

The contract for the supply of four S-300 divisions Iran was signed by the parties in November 2015. Initially, it was assumed that the complexes would be delivered to the Islamic Republic no earlier than mid -2017. Russia and Iran have already concluded a contract for the S-300 delivery in 2007, but due to the sanctions of the UN Security Council and the embargo, weapons were not delivered. The Iranian side took a lawsuit in the amount of four billion dollars, but later withdrew it.
