Senator Lyudmila Bokova has amended a bill requiring telecom operators to store almost all Internet traffic, including the content of customer conversations, for three years. She believes that only information about the facts of the connections themselves should be stored. The shelf life remains the same - three years.
As Senator Bokova told Interfax, the amendments were agreed with the industry.
- The current version of the bill states that telecom operators must store users' voice and text messages (not only information about these messages, but also their content) for three years. All information upon request is provided to the authorities. The Internet industry called the requirements unfeasible due to the large amount of data.
- The bill was prepared by State Duma deputy Irina Yarovaya and senator Viktor Ozerov. The document was adopted in the first reading on May 13.
