What do you associate the word hospice? Perhaps with death? In every children's hospice, they die, and the children's hospice in St. Petersburg is no exception, but the employees of this institution tried to illuminate the life of an incurable and terminally ill children, to help parents take care of the child and overcome stress. This kind of practice is called palliative (from the Latin Pallum - a bedspread) Therapy is a system of measures aimed at maintaining the quality of life of patients with incurable, threatening life and seriously leaking diseases, at the most possible level, a comfortable level for him.
The children's hospice in St. Petersburg is unique, since this is the only state institution in Russia that provides a full range of palliative assistance to children, including medical, psychological, social and spiritual support.
The building of the children's hospice in St. Petersburg, founded by Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko photo: Sergey StroyelevMore than 50 thousand children need palliative assistance in Russia, but many of them do not receive it for a number of reasons, in particular, because it is a new direction of medicine in our country.
The building of the former orphanage on Babushkin Street was turned into a palace for childrenChildren's hospice in St. Petersburg was founded by Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko. At first, the assistance was provided to several families, and in 2003 the CHILDERS FOM "Children's Hospice" was founded, whose employees - social teachers and psychologists - began to go home to seriously ill children.
In 2006, with the support of the governor, a medical institution "Children's Hospice" was created. 40 employees went to sick children, serving about 200 families. The dream of opening the hospital came true in 2010, when the building of the former orphanage on Grandmother Street was turned into a palace for children or, as it seemed to me, into a real house of light, including unique constructions for children-tolerance and everything necessary for a comfortable stay of patients.
The institution operates an Orthodox temple where you can take communion, however, if one of the patients belongs to a different religion and needs to communicate with representatives of their religious community, the hospice officers assist in organizing this meeting.
The child in this house is in the center of all processes and in loving handsThe word “care” is replaced by the word “love”, and each person involved in the process of therapy puts the life, happiness and comfort of the child in the spotlight.
The child in this house is in the center of all processes and in loving hands.
When one of the patients of the hospice dies, a large candle is lit at the entrance to the building, and the parents and staff of the institution can say goodbye to the child in the “sad” room. In 2015, the candle was lit 18 times ...
