Matvienko: Russia will not tolerate the oppression of compatriots

The Russian -speaking population in a number of former republics of the USSR becomes an object of oppression in the field of language and education. This was stated by Valentina Matvienko at the Livadia International Forum "Russian World: Problems and Prospects", RIA Novosti reports . Russia does not want to calmly look at this, the chairman of the Federation Council emphasized.

"Russian people, Russian culture are becoming an object of oppression and persecution. One can give a lot of examples of infringement of legal, provided for by international law of the interests of Russian people abroad in the field of language, culture, education. We know what is happening in this area in this area in Latvia, Ukraine, in a number of other states," Matvienko said.

Russia does not want to "calmly look at all this," said Speaker SP. “Russia supported and will support its foreign compatriots,” she emphasized. According to Matvienko, compatriots outside of Russia, wherever they live, should be able to maintain ties with the historical homeland, study the Russian language and culture and feel like Russian people.

At the same time, Matvienko noted that confrontation is pumped in a number of states in relation to Russia, Russophobia spreads and attempts to “isolate their citizens from great Russian culture” under the pretext of their allegedly existing non -reduced country of residence.

“If you call a spade a spade, the policy is not worthy. Outside Russia, there are especially many Russians in Ukraine, in Belarus, Moldova, Baltic countries,” the speaker said. “Nobody ever gave facts, examples of their meaninglessness, promoting the political and economic interests of Russia to the detriment of the country's residence.”

According to Matvienko, it is required to ensure the effectiveness of statelithic measures regarding compatriots abroad and proper control of their implementation. "It is absolutely necessary to update a significant part of the regulatory legal documents in this area. As you know, the main directions of Russian state policy regarding compatriots living abroad were approved back in 1994 and are already openly outdated. It happens that the current document provides for the implementation of the long -abolished executive authorities," Matvienko said.

In turn, she noted, organizations of compatriots in the countries of their residence should be achieved by influence on the decisions of state bodies affecting their rights and interests. "The Russian world should become a global factor with which is considered at the national and international level," said the speaker.

In November, at the fifth World Congress of compatriots, Matvienko proposed creating a single Internet portal of information about Russia for the media , writing in Russian. "You should think about creating a single Internet portal that would provide the media writing in Russian, operational and, most importantly, truthful information about Russia's domestic and foreign policy," said Matvienko. According to her, this is "extremely important in the conditions of the information war that is waged against our country."

The speaker of the upper house also emphasized the need to involve compatriots in the work of countering the falsification of the Second World War. “Our common task is to preserve historical memory, condemn the actions of those countries that heroize the Nazis and their accomplices today,” Matvienko said.
