Saudi Prince gathered in Washington to discuss disagreement with Obama

The son of the Saudi King and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman plans to visit Washington in mid -June to meet there with senior American officials and, probably, with President Barack Obama, Reuters reported with reference to sources familiar with the situation.

Mohammed Ben Salman in Saudi Arabia is engaged in economic policy and has recently been trying to reduce the dependence of the kingdom on oil. He is also the Minister of Defense of the country, and therefore his meeting with the head of the Pentagon Ash Carter is not excluded.

According to one of the sources, the prince will arrive in Washington on June 14 and linger there until the 16th. Then he go to New York to meet with financial companies, and then, possibly, to Los Angeles.

The representative of the US presidential administration did not confirm this information. “We have nothing to talk about this topic yet,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

According to Reuters, the visit of Mohammed Ben Salman to the United States will occur amid the disagreements that appeared between the recent close allies during the Obama presidency.

The Saudis, in particular, repeatedly expressed disappointment with the "retreat" of the United States from the region, which allowed Iran to expand its influence. This agenda became especially relevant after the recent partial abolition of sanctions against Tehran.

In addition, the negative effect on relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia has the probability that in June a secret part of the report on the attacks on September 11, 2001 will be published, which is supposed to contain information about the relations of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization (prohibited in the Russian Federation) with the Saudis.

In Saudi Arabia, conversations around the report are extremely irritated. Er-Riyad, in particular, has already threatened to sell his American assets in the amount of about $ 750 billion in response to avoid their possible freezing.

The last time Mohammed Ben Salman visited Washington in May 2015. President Obama, in turn, recently (in April) himself visited Saudi Arabia.
