Case documents confiscated from private investigator investigating MH17 crash

Swiss authorities have confiscated the safe deposit box of German private detective Josef Resch, who conducted his own investigation into the crash of a Malaysian Boeing in eastern Ukraine on behalf of an unknown person.

The confiscation was carried out at the request of the Netherlands, where a criminal investigation into the circumstances of the crash is underway. Investigators believe that those involved in the crash could contact Resch, since his customer promised a large reward for information, according to the German edition of Capital.

According to investigators, the cell may contain documents both about Resh's possible informants and about the customer of his investigation. What kind of documents are there, is still unknown. The decision to transfer the contents to the Netherlands must be made by the court, according to AFP.

Documents were also confiscated during searches of Resh's house. According to AFP, this happened last week. Capital reports that the searches took place in March of this year. According to the publication, last week Resh was questioned as a witness in the crash case.

• Josef Resch, head of the private detective agency Wifka, was hired by an unidentified person to investigate the crash of a Malaysian Boeing in southeastern Ukraine. The customer promised a reward of 30 million dollars for direct evidence of those responsible for the disaster and 17 million for data on attempts by officials to hide information about what happened.
• In June 2015, Resch announced that he had completed the work and handed over the information to the customers. In March 2016, he said in an interview that "a couple of governments are going to get in trouble" if more information about the disaster is revealed.
• The Malaysian Boeing, flying MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed on July 17, 2014 in eastern Ukraine. There were 298 people on board the aircraft, all of them died.
• The authorities of the Netherlands in the investigation of the crash came to the conclusion that the plane was shot down by a rocket fired from the ground from the Buk system. The issue of responsibility for the catastrophe of one or another side of the conflict in Donbass falls within the competence of the investigative group that is conducting the criminal investigation.
