The investigation into the case of the director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature has been completed

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia has completed an investigation into the case of the Director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature, Natalya Sharina. She is charged under paragraph “b” of Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting national hatred or enmity using her official position) and parts 3 and 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement committed on a large and especially large scale). this on Facebook on June 7 Sharina's lawyer Ivan Pavlov announced .

The case against Sharina under Article 282 was initiated in October 2015. During the search, which was carried out at the request of a local municipal deputy, a banned book by Ukrainian nationalist Dmytro Korchinsky "War at the NATO" was found in the library. Sharina was detained on October 28. She claims that the book was planted, there are no library stamps on the publication. As for embezzlement, the case was opened on March 31. Sharina is under house arrest.

Information and analytical center "Sova" believes that the persecution of Sharina is unlawful. “The law on combating extremism is in conflict with the law on librarianship, since, in accordance with the latter, libraries are required to keep all incoming materials in the collection. The need to eliminate this contradiction is long overdue, however, instead of taking appropriate legislative measures, the authorities punish librarians for distributing prohibited literature or storing it for the purpose of distribution under Art. 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, if they do not check the titles of books from the collections and new acquisitions with the constantly updated Federal List of Extremist Materials and do not seize prohibited ones,” human rights activists say .
