Bailiffs took ECHR compensation from Khodorkovsky

The Federal Bailiff Service transferred ten thousand dollars to the Russian budget, which were due to Mikhail Khodorkovsky as compensation for moral damage according to the decision of the ECHR. The press service of the bailiffs reported this on June 7.

Money in rubles equivalent to the indicated amount was transferred by the Russian Ministry of Justice to the deposit account of the department for the execution of particularly important proceedings of the FSSP. The bailiffs are also holding summary enforcement proceedings against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev for the joint recovery of more than 17.5 billion rubles into the federal budget, the department reminds.

At the end of May, a lawyer acting in the interests of Khodorkovsky, Jonathan Glasson, complained to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe that Russia was not paying his client the money due under the decision of the ECHR. The Ministry of Justice promised that it would hand them over within three months. The ECHR found that the decision to collect 17.5 billion rubles from Khodorkovsky contradicts the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, but the Supreme Court did not recognize the correctness of its European colleagues.
