The Senate of France approved a resolution on the softening of sanctions against Russia

The Senate of France - the upper house of the country's parliament - approved the resolution calling for the government to begin "gradual and partial" softening of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by RBC with reference to publication on the Senate website. The document is advisory in nature.

The resolution was supported by the 301 senator, while only 16 voted against.

The document states that the sanctions of the European Union against Russia are harmful to damage to both parties, and "the restoration of confident and strong ties is important for solving common tasks and achieving strategic partnership with Russia."

The resolution also states that the lifting of sanctions in the economic sphere and a revision in political will contribute to progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

In addition, the document calls for negotiations on holding bilateral meetings at a high level between representatives of the EU and Russia members. For this, it is proposed to cancel personal sanctions against members of the State Duma and the Federation Council.

According to the correspondent of "faces", during the discussion of the resolution and voting, about 30 Ukrainian activists held a picket from the Senate. They chanted "Putin - terrorist!" And "Putin is a killer!" The inscriptions on posters read: “The Russian regime buys support in France,” “Terrorist Putin is a model for France. Are you serious?”, “There is no sanctions”, “Sanctions are the only language for talking with Russia”.

On April 28, the resolution was adopted by the National Assembly - the lower house of parliament. 55 deputies of 98 participated in the vote spoke for.

The initiative of the resolution was made by the deputy Thierry Mariani, who in June last year headed the delegation of the French parliamentarians, which illegally arrived in the annexed Crimea . Mariani is the co-chair of the Association "Franco-Russian Dialogue". Its other co -chair - ex -president of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin.

The sanctions of the European Union against Russia were last extended until September 15. The Council of the EU will consider the issue of further extension on June 28-29.
