A fan of the Russian national team faces a prison term for beatings in Marseille

A fan of the Russian national team who participated in the riots in Marseille faces imprisonment for beatings, TASS reports citing the Russian Consulate General in Marseille.

“We have information about one detained Russian fan. He faces imprisonment. The fan is charged with causing bodily harm with serious consequences,” the consulate said.

At the moment, the consulate does not have detailed information following the clashes in the city.

“It’s still morning, so we don’t have any details about the incident. As for the future Russian fan, if he expresses a desire to contact the consulate, we will come to him and provide all possible assistance. But he will go to trial and serve his prison sentence in France,” the consulate added.

The consulate also added that there were no other reports of Russian fans, except for several losses of documents that are not related to the championship.

Earlier, the media reported about riots in Marseille, where fans started a fight before the European Championship match between England and Russia. According to local publications, about 35 people were injured, four of them were seriously injured. According to French police, one of the victims is in serious condition.

According to the President of the Russian Football Union, Vitaly Mutko, for the incident with fans, UEFA may face sanctions in the form of a fine from the RFU.
