
The governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko signed a decision on the name of the bridge across the Duderhof Canal in honor of the former head of the Russian administration of Chechnya Akhmat Kadyrov. This was reported by Fontanka.ru with reference to two unnamed sources.

The Poltavchenko initiative to name the bridge across Duderhofka by the name Kadyrov, formalized by the decision of the city toponymic commission , caused the indignation of the Petersburgers. On the Change.org platform, the collection of signatures under the petition against such a name was started. By the evening of Wednesday, the document collected over 90 thousand signatures.

On the night of June 9, next to another bridge across Duderhofka, located in the neighborhood, unknown drew a large portrait of Colonel of the Russian Army Yuri Budanov, convicted of the murder of Chechen girl, Elsa Kungaeva. Next to the portrait was depicted the Order of Courage, which Budanov was deprived of by court decision. The action took place on the eve of the five -year period from the day of the murder of a former colonel.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg refused to consider the draft appeal to Poltavchenko with the demand not to call the bridge the name of Kadyrov.
