
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, during his visit to Syria, met with the president of this country Bashar Assad, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov.
It is emphasized that the negotiations with Assad Shoigu held on behalf of the Russian president. The parties discussed the issues of cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Also, on behalf of Vladimir Putin, the Minister of Defense of Russia instructed the Khmeimim air base in Syria. Shoigu, in particular, checked how the service at the facility was organized, and also examined the starting positions of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system standing there on the combat duty.
It is noted that the minister instructed the command of the base to strengthen the assistance of the population, especially in those settlements that are blocked by militants. In addition, the head of the Ministry of Defense gave instructions to the leadership of the Center for Reconciliation to intensify negotiations with the local authorities on joining the ceasefire.
