Ex-President of Egypt Mohammed Mursi received a second life sentence

He was accused of espionage in favor of Qatar

The court in Egypt sentenced the ex-president of Mohammed Mursi to the second life sentence . On Friday, he was accused of espionage in favor of Qatar.

In the same case, the court approved six death sentences, including three journalists in absentia. Two more accused received life sentences.

All sentences can be appealed in cassation.
Mursi, the leader of the Muslim Brothers, which is prohibited now, was previously sentenced to death and life imprisonment in other criminal cases, including on charges of organizing a mass escape from prison during an uprising against the then President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, as well as on charges of spying in the radical Palistan group of Hamas.

In July 2013, the Egyptian military, taking advantage of the popular dissatisfaction of the policy of the first democratically elected President-Islamist Mursi, removed him from power, and then arrested him. After that, a campaign of repression against its supporters began in the country. Hundreds of them were sentenced to death, thousands were thrown into prisons .
