© Denis Stroyev, Pop/Off/ArtAs part of the parallel program of the V International Moscow Biennale of Young Art in the Pop/OFF/Art gallery on June 29, the Geliogabal group exhibition will open, at which the works of Moscow artists, known for their projects at non -profit relevant sites.
The first curatorial project of the young artist Alexander Plusnin is rethinking the period of the reign of the Roman Emperor Heliogabal, who went down in history with his cruelty and love for excesses. Turning to the biography of Heliogabal, written by Antonen Arto, the curator draws a parallel between the hegemony of the atrocities of that period with the shocks that crushing modern society.
The exposition will be compiled by works performed in various media: from painting and sculptures to photography and video. Exploring the issues of identification, social status and social contradictions in language and form, artists in their works demonstrate that modern society is still archaic and the only way to resolve problems is a dream of alternatives.
