Close the eyes of the cassett

The government television channel RT (former Russia Today) demonstrated the Casseric incendiary bombs of the RBK-500 Zab-2.5cm on aircraft located at the Russian Khmeimim air base in Syria. This was reported by Conflict Intelligence Team. The relevant personnel entered a report on the visit to the base of the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergey Shoigu on the base of June 18.

Soon after the publication of CIT, the report on the air, however, was edited - personnel with cassette bombs were removed from it. The duration of the plot decreased by 5 seconds.

Later, on Monday, RT spokesman Anton Vorontsov told Rain that shots with bombs were seized because a Russian pilot was depicted on the same shots. Vorontsov’s editing of Vorontsov explained by concern for the security of the military. Meanwhile, the pilot on these frames is depicted in a helmet covering his face, so that it is impossible to distinguish his features.

Later, the press secretary of the television channel continued, the editors decided that personnel with the pilot really did not threaten his security. After that, the initial version of the plot was returned to the YouTube channel RT.

Russia has been repeatedly accused of using cassette ammunition in Syria. In particular, such information was contained in the report by Amnesty International , published on December 23, 2015. On the same day, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov said that the information is false in the report , and the statements of human rights activists are unproven.

In 2010, the International Convention prohibiting the use of cassette ammunition began to operate. However, the largest manufacturers of this weapons - the USA, China and Russia - did not join the Convention.
