Alexander Zhukov: There is no speech about the boycott of the Olympic Games

Russia does not intend to boycott the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, however, the Olympic Committee of Russia (OKR) will study the possibility of filing a claim for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). This was stated by President of OKR Alexander Zhukov.

On Tuesday, according to the results of the summit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the head of the organization Thomas Bach Bach said that IAAF is fully supported by the IAAF of the removal of athletes of the Russian Federation from international competitions, including the Olympics.

Moreover, in individual cases, after additional checks, domestic athletes can still get the right to speak at games. The most controversial question is to which flag.

“We are not talking about the boycott of the Olympic Games,” said Zhukov TASS. “Russian athletes will definitely speak in Rio, I have no doubt about this. I repeatedly noted that the OCR completely shares zero tolerance to the use of doping and the anxiety of the IOC to protect the rights of pure athletes. And, of course, we are to maintain the unity of the Olympic movement. And in no case. There should be no boycotts. "

Recall that in 1984, the Olympic Games in Los Angeles were boycotted by representatives of the USSR and near the Socialist-Revolutionary Stock, conducting alternative competitions "Friendship-84". This was done in response to a boycott 50 countries of the Moscow Olympics-80 due to the introduction of Soviet troops into Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, in Russia, calls are already heard to hold its Olympics - "Regional European Olympic Games."

The President of the OKR also said that the issue of removing the entire national team of Russia was born in one speech at the IOC summit, but this topic was not continued.

According to Zhukov, his department will study the possibility of filing a claim for IAAF.

"Now our lawyers are working on this issue. If our lawyers find issues in the decision of IAAF, which affect the interests of the Olympic movement as a whole, violate the Olympic Charter, we will certainly also file claims," ​​he said.

At the same time, athletes are likely to file claims on their own, possibly with the support of WFLA. OKR will certainly provide legal support, added Zhukov.
