The GTA gang case was brought to court
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation sent to court the case of the so-called GTA gang, a criminal group that committed a series of murders on highways near Moscow.
Nine members of the gang have been charged. Four people were put on the international wanted list, two of them were detained in Tajikistan.
“Depending on the role of each, they are charged with committing crimes under Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (banditry), Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder), art. 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery), art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal trafficking in weapons), art. 223 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal manufacture of weapons)," the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported.
“[Members of the GTA gang] behaved inconspicuously, were engaged in private transportation, construction, worked as watchmen, that is, they were no different from other labor migrants from the Central Asian republics. By the way, many had families. It was precisely because of this lifestyle, in conjunction with a well-thought-out attack planning system, that the gang was extremely difficult to figure out, it took a lot of time, ”said Vladimir Markin, a representative of the RF Investigative Committee.
- Members of a group known as the GTA gang (the media began to call it that by analogy with the Grand Theft Auto series of games) attacked drivers on highways near Moscow. The criminals forced the cars to stop, laying spikes on the road, and then killed those in the cars. Initially, it was reported that the dead did not lose money and valuables, but the investigation claims that the crimes were committed for mercenary motives.
- According to investigators, gang members in 2012-2014 killed 17 people and wounded two in Moscow, Moscow and Kaluga regions.
- The gang members were arrested in November 2014. All of them are from Central Asia. The leader of the group Ibaidullo Subkhanov (mentioned under the name of Rustam Usmanov) was killed during the arrest.
- During the investigation, Alexei Staroverov, head of the Office of the Prosecutor General's Office, was interrogated, in whose house the criminals gathered. He was later fired.
