On May 6 and 10, Cherevatenko had already visited the investigators. Also, employees of the Investigative Committee questioned a number of employees of a human rights organization, including an accountant.

According to the lawyer of the international human rights group "Agora" Ramil Akhmetgaliev, the head of the NPO may be the first in Russia as a defendant in a criminal case instituted under Art. 330.1 of the Criminal Code (malicious evasion from the performance of duties determined by the legislation of the Russian Federation on non -profit organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent). The maximum punishment under this article is imprisonment for up to two years.

Cherevatenko heads the Coordination Council of the Union of Don, created in the Novocherkassk of the Union of Don, who was engaged in the legal education of the population, protecting the rights of conscripts and military personnel. At the same time, it is also the chairman of the board of the same fund.

The union was forcibly included in the register of "foreign agents" in 2014, among the first five NPOs. The fund was forcibly included in the register in 2015. Both organizations appealed this decision, the proceedings are still underway. At the same time, on April 7, 2016, the union was expelled from the register, since during the year he did not receive foreign financing, which, according to the law, allows us to remove the corresponding status from NGOs.

As explained by the head of the Public Verdict Foundation Natalya Taubina, to prove the "malignancy" of Cherevatenko’s violations, investigators will have to prove their repeatedness. “Apparently, they will proceed from the fact that she twice refused to submit documents for registration in the registry and in both cases this was done by the Ministry of Justice,” Taubina suggested. However, she noted, it will not work to initiate a criminal case, until the final refusals will be made on the complaints of both organizations led by Cherevatenko.
