Russia has banned the cultivation of GMOs

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted in the final reading a bill that prohibits the cultivation and breeding of genetically modified plants and animals. An exception is made only for scientific research and expertise.

The bill also gives the Russian government the right to impose a ban on the import of genetically modified plants and animals.

For violation of the new ban, fines of up to 50 thousand rubles for individuals and up to 500 thousand rubles for legal entities are provided.

  • Genetically modified organisms are used in agriculture and pharmaceuticals. There is no reliable scientific data on the dangers of such organisms. *
