The Criminal Code wants to be supplemented with an article on "discrediting Russia"

State Duma deputy Oleg Mikheev (“Fair Russia”) is going to submit a bill to the criminal liability for “discrediting Russia or its authorities”.

According to RIA Novosti , the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is proposed to supplement the article “Discrediting of the Russian Federation”.

The discrediting of the Russian Federation is understood to mean “the spread of knowingly false, inaccurate or distorted information on the political, economic, social, military or international situation of the Russian Federation, the legal status of citizens in the Russian Federation, which discredit the Russian Federation or its authorities”.

These criminal actions are supposed to be punished with a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles or by obligatory work for up to 160 hours. The punishment for discrediting the Russian Federation, committed “publicly, as well as using the media or electronic or information and telecommunication networks (including the Internet),” there will be a fine of up to 1 million rubles or mandatory work for up to 240 hours, using an official position-a fine of up to 2 million rubles or mandatory work for up to 320 hours.

Commenting on the draft law, its author, referring to the experience of Belarus, noted that it does not contradict world legal practice. According to the explanatory note to the bill, the new law is aimed at strengthening the foundations of statehood.

“The modern international situation is characterized by the widest exposure to the information sphere on the masses - the so -called“ War of the World view ”. - says in the explanatory note. - It is on the "view of the world" that the stability of the state’s economy, security from the external threat, and internal moods largely depends. "

“On the one hand, the current legislation on the media is built on the reliability of the information provided, on the other hand, due to overloading the information, the volume of unverified and inaccurate information is growing every day. The spread of knowingly false information about Russia leads to the outflow of capital, personnel, the creation and activation of asocial groups of citizens and other negative consequences, ”the deputy said.
