In the city of Usolye-Sibirskoye, 18 people fell ill with trichinosis and were hospitalized after being poisoned by bear meat. This was reported on the website of the Rospotrebnadzor department for the Irkutsk region.
Having received an emergency notification, specialists from the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor organized an epidemiological investigation. It turned out that the factor of infection was bear meat. All patients were admitted to the hospital in a state of mild to moderate severity.
Trichinosis is an acute parasitic disease accompanied by fever, skin rashes, facial swelling and muscle pain, reminds Rospotrebnadzor. In severe cases, the disease affects the lungs, heart and central nervous system.
The source of this disease is domestic and wild pigs, bears, beavers, badgers, rodents, as well as dogs and cats. A person can become infected by eating raw or undercooked meat. Most often, according to Rospotrebnadzor, the infection factor is home-made salted or smoked meat, as well as lard and fresh meat.
