The Deputy General Director of UNESCO on culture issues Francesco Bandarin completely approved the latest amendments to the project of the monument to Prince Vladimir, who the Russian authorities intend to establish Moscow Square Borovitskaya. As reported on the website of the Ministry of Culture, Bandarin said about this at a meeting with the head of the Ministry Vladimir Medinsky. Among the other participants in the meeting was the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov.

“During the meeting, it was emphasized:“ For the first time in decades of joint work, such a detailed and mutually insistent discussion is carried out, the wishes and recommendations of UNESCO are so fully implemented, ”the department’s website says. In accordance with the comments of the International Organization, the height of the monument will be reduced from 25 to 16 meters. The project for the arrangement of the territory around the monument is also agreed with UNESCO.

In January 2016, the International Council for the preservation of monuments and landmark places - the UNESCO advisory body - did not recommend the Russian authorities to erect a monument on Borovitskaya Square. It was noted that this "can have negative consequences" for the Kremlin as an object of the World Heritage.

It was later reported that if the monument on the Borovitskaya, the Kremlin may be excluded from the World Heritage List.

Nevertheless, in the spring it was stated that the monument would nevertheless be erected on Borovitskaya . It was claimed that this would be done by November 4 - the Day of National Unity. At the same time, it was reported that UNESCO recommendations will be taken into account.
