Leonid Slutsky left the post of head coach of the Russian national football team. This was reported on the official website of the Russian Football Union.

“The RFU thanks Leonid Viktorovich Slutsky, under whose leadership the Russian team won a ticket to the 2016 European Championship, for professionalism and wishes him success in the coaching career,” the statement said.

Who will become the new head coach of the national team is still unclear. The RFU promised to publish information "as it is received."

Slutsky headed the national team in the summer of 2015, when Fabio Capello was fired for unsatisfactory work. The Russian specialist managed to win several important victories with the team, which allowed her to qualify for the European Championship.

At the tournament itself, the national team performed unsuccessfully, without fulfilling the task set by the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko, the task of entering the playoffs. The Russians took fourth place in their group, scoring one point in three matches.
