Death toll from explosions in Baghdad exceeds 130

As a result of explosions in Baghdad that occurred on the night of July 3, at least 136 people were killed. This is reported by Al Jazeera, citing sources in the police and medical services.

According to the agency, 131 people died as a result of the explosion in the Karada area, where at the time of the explosion it was crowded due to the fact that local residents fast and visit restaurants only after sunset. The BBC reports 125 victims of this explosion.

Five people were killed in a second explosion at a market in the Al-Shaab area.

• Two explosions took place in Baghdad on the night of 3 July. There is no official information on the number of victims. The Islamic State (an organization banned in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization) claimed responsibility for the attack.
• The Islamic State controls 14 percent of Iraq. These are mainly lands in the north-west of the country, including one of the largest cities in the country, Mosul, as well as a number of settlements located near Baghdad. At the end of June, Iraqi troops recaptured the city of Fallujah, located 60 kilometers from the capital of Iraq, from ISIS.
