Babaeva served as editor -in -chief since September 2013. Prior to that, she headed the policy of the Izvestia newspaper and oversaw the work of RIA Novosti's cornettles in the UK and the USA.

At the end of May of this year, Natalya Galimova, deputy editor of the policy department, also left the publication. She hid the real reason for her departure by writing on the social network Facebook that "she saw in her further work (as amended by Gazeta.ru - NT) serious reputation risks." Confused NT sources claim that Galimova has gone due to sharply tightened censorship. For example, in May of this year, the publication was banned, according to sources, to publish the news that the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov used a state helicopter worth more than 1 billion rubles for flight to the Liturgy in Sergiev Posad.
