Producers decided to create an alternative to RAO

Russian producers and musicians began the process of registering a new organization, which should become an alternative to the Russian copyright society (RAO). It is reported by RNS with reference to unnamed sources.

According to the publication, the founders of the Author's Union association will be the copyright holders themselves, including Stas Namin, Alexander Zatsepin, Gennady Gladkov, Alexey Rybnikov, Victor Drobysh, Vasily Vakulenko (Basta), Vera Tariverdieva, Vyacheslav Butusov, Domenik Joker, Anna Drubich and others.

Drobysh and Namin confirmed RNS to create an alternative to RAO. According to Drobysh, the organization will be formed within one to two months. He added that "there is no end in itself and come up with some organization to head it and earn money on it." In turn, Namin pointed out that in society several hundred copyright holders are already consisting.

RAO is an organization accredited by the Ministry of Culture to collect deductions in favor of authors from television channels, radio stations and other sites. In accordance with the accreditation of RAO, has the right to fees for payments in favor of copyright holders until 2023.

At the end of June 2016, the head of RAO Sergey Fedotov was arrested until August 17 by the Tagansky district court of Moscow. The investigation believes that Fedotov is involved in the theft scheme for RAO funds, the damage from which exceeded 500 million rubles.
