Snapchat sued for corruption of minors

A group of underage Snapchat users have sued the company for corruption - according to the plaintiffs, children can often encounter adult-only content on the messenger.

The lawsuit involves the Snapchat Discover feature, a section of the messenger where content provided by partner publications is published. Often this content focuses on the topics of relationships and sex.

The minor plaintiffs are represented by attorney Mark Geragos. As examples of Snapchat posts not intended for children, he cited the following: “10 things he thinks about when he can’t make you orgasm”, “I got high as a pizza delivery man and got robbed”, “What it’s like when they caress you with their fingers in public.”

Underage Snapchat users should be protected under the Communications Decency Act, Geragos said. For each violation of the law, he intends to demand 50 thousand dollars from Snapchat. In addition, the messenger, according to the lawyer, should warn children and their parents that the application may contain adult content.

Snapchat representatives responded to the lawsuit by saying that they are sorry if the application has offended someone's feelings, but the company supports the independent editorial policy of its media partners.
